In October and November 2009 I was diagnosed with three primary cancers: ovarian cancer and two primary breast cancers. I won the trifecta.

For those of gruesome disposition, my understanding is that:

  • The ovarian cancer is moderately differentiated stage 3 serous papillary carcinoma. It has spread into the abdomen, but not beyond. It had spread from the ovaries to the uterus, appendix and omentum and a bit under the liver that could not be removed in surgery.
  • The left breast has an invasive lobular cancer. It has spread beyond the lobules, but it has not spread beyond the breast.
  • The right breast has an invasive ductal cancer. It has spread beyond the ducts, but it has not spread beyond the breast.

My understanding is that I’ve got about a 50% chance of surviving 3 years; a 20% chance of surviving 5 years; and bugger-all chance of 10.

I don’t want to forget how I feel, what I’m doing, what drugs and doctors and tests I’m dealing with. I need a way to record the weird hideousness of what’s happening. And one day I want friends and family to know this stuff, too.

I’m a geek. What did you expect? A diary with a little lock and key?
